Using pedal power

After almost three weeks of riding the bikes around the parking lot at Snowflower, we decided it was time to try something new. Upon the recommendation of the man at the bike store in Truckee where Warren bought me a new bell for my bike for my birthday, we drove to Squaw Valley with the bikes on the back of the pickup.
I packed two turkey sandwiches and two peanut butter sandwiches in my hydropack. Warren put the steak strips in his basket, aka fishing creel.

I’ll admit there were a number of uphill climbs that I had to walk. I can accept that I am not in shape and can’t pedal up some hills. (The bike is a cruiser – no gears.) But one slight uphill, between mile marker 3 and 4, I was doing better and had to get off the path because some dad didn’t think in advance about having the young-un riding downhill. It was safer for me to get off the path than to have “junior” hit me.

We have seen this trail for years, from the road. Now, for the first time we were seeing it from the trail right along the river. So worth it.

After lunch, we began the ride back, which was much easier, as it was a slight downhill most of the way. Well, but there were those women standing across the path, both sides, not paying any attention. I gave them the bell. Yes, that new birthday present worked. “Bing Bong.” Two moved. “Bing Bong.” The one who would have walked right into me stopped before she hot me. Then she had the nerve to give me a look because I had the audacity to ring my bell at her. Hmmm, that’s because you were where you shouldn’t be. Warren needs a horn on his bike, because she was back in his way after I went by.
Silly lady!

Bottom line, we had a great ride. Approximately nine miles at 6,000+ foot elevation. I think we may need to find other places to go ride.
